The Oath of the Honor Guard

THE OATH OF THE HONOR GUARD 

We don’t do it for the kudos

We don’t do it for the fame,

We do it for the fallen

To commemorate their name

We stand there by their doorway

By their caskets or their urns,

Keeping guard over our family

Each of us taking our turn

We reflect upon their service

For more time with them we long,

We remember how they’d laugh and sing

To our jokes or favorite song

They chose a life of service

To our nation and our land,

They gave their life for others

So we salute with steady hands

We play the pipes,

We raise the flags,

Play taps and fire the guns,

The silence shattered by the sound

Of rifles “21”

Don’t cry for us, those left behind

As we push ourselves onward...

For we are the strong, we are the brave

We are the Honor Guard
