Ryan graduated from Newbury Park High School, CA in 1999 and attended UCLA as a pre-med student. He enjoyed playing and coaching hockey and was an excellent trombone player. Ryan had been a skilled paramedic of HCMC since he moved to Minnesota in 2005. He always studied the newest cases and made sure to keep updated on all new protocols to ensure he would be able to do everything possible for the people in his care while on duty and off.
His daughter, Danika, was born in Waconia, MN on April 28, 2006, and will be his living legacy. His love for life and strong determination to help others is continued on in her.
During his shift on March 8, 2007, Ryan and his partner responded to many stressful assignments. When the shift ended, he told his partner that he was feeling tired and wanted to go home and rest as he was going to pick up his wife and daughter at the airport the next morning. The next morning as the family arrived at the airport, Ryan was not there to greet them. Unable to contact Ryan, his wife had a family member pick them up from the airport. When they arrived at the family home, Ryan was found unresponsive. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. It was later determined that the cause of Ryan's death was lymphocytic myocarditis from an on duty exposure.
